Ever since the end of the Luke Cage/Jessica Jones era on Netflix, we’ve been waiting for the next live-action installment of the Marvel universe on streaming TV and it’s finally here.
However, this is a lesser-known property called Helstrom (also known as Son of Satan). Here’s how Marvel describes the main character:
“A professor of ethics who moonlights as an exorcist, Daimon Helstrom has no illusions about saving a world he has no patience for; he just hopes he can help a few of the people closest to him. In his battle against a hidden world, Daimon is determined to root out demons as they arise, and will not stop until they’re vanquished.”
The series is coming to Hulu and, based on the trailer, it looks like it will go into the dark realm of horror, but maybe more in the American Horror Story side of things instead of the Rated R fare of something like Showtime’s Penny Dreadful (pre-City of Angels, to be clear).
The showrunner is Paul Zbyszewski, who wrote and produced on Lost and Agents of Shield, so we’re in good hands. Bonus: The timing is perfect, as the series premieres on October 16, right before Halloween.
