The X-Men franchise has been incredibly spotty, with great highs (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and serious lows (Dark Phoenix). Similarly, the spin-offs have been up and down, with Deadpool becoming a fan favorite, and the Wolverine series of films ending with a bit of a whimper.
Now Hollywood is taking another stab at the X-Men expanded universe with The New Mutants.
The comic book version of the series, which details younger mutants not quite ready to become full-fledged X-Men, was initially popular, but after changing hands so many times became a bit muddled.
Still, the series had so many great stories and so much great art that turning it into a film is a decent gamble.
With the first trailer, starring Maisie Williams (Arya Stark on Game of Thrones), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), and popular new comer Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split, Morgan, Glass) we get to see our first real glimpse at that gamble. So far, it’s looking pretty good.
The film hits theaters on April 3, 2020.
