Apple TV has been hitting home runs with science fiction, with its Isaac Asimov adaptation Foundation leading the pack. If there is any series on the streaming service that stands up to the epic scale, superb writing, and award-worthy acting of Foundation, it’s Dark Matter. The series, based on the novel by Blake Crouch, stars Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby) and Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream, Snowpiercer) at the center of a multiverse drama where multiple realities intersect in only the most fascinating ways.
Fans of the show will be happy to know that there is indeed a Season 2 coming, and Apple TV just gave us the trailer.
Because the series is based on different versions of the same world, most of the cast from Season 1 returns, in some cases as different versions, but a new cast member is introduced who will likely add tension to the challenges faced by Edgerton’s character.
Speaking of Edgerton, he will also star in an upcoming sci-fi take on AI doom called 2034. The film is directed by fellow actor (and AI activist) Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), and shooting began in May of this year. We don’t have full plot details, but the story tracks the dark side of the rise of AI and also stars Rachel McAdams (Send Help), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom), Alfre Woodard (Star Trek: First Contact), and Toni Collette (Hereditary).
The second season of Dark Matter will launch on August 28 on Apple TV.
