The star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just went public with his anger regarding the latest state-of-the-art in AI video called Seedance 2.0 from China’s ByteDance. Simu Liu, who acted in the lead role as Shang-Chi and did many of his own stunts in the film, is one of the few actors who have broken their silence on the rise of AI video as a replacement for human actors.

After taking a look at the fake Tom Cruise versus fake Brad Pitt AI video generated by Seedance 2.0, which we covered earlier this week, Liu took to X.com to unleash his disdain for the video.

“Anyone who has ever watched a martial arts movie knows this is absolutely dogshit,” wrote Liu.

This isn’t the first time Liu has railed against AI. A few months ago, businessman-turned-actor Kevin O’Leary (Shark Tank), during an interview with World of Travel about his role in Marty Supreme, said, “Almost every scene had as many as 150 extras…it costs millions of dollars to do that… Why couldn’t you simply put AI agents in their place? Because they’re not the main actors. They’re only in the story visually. [You could] save millions of dollars, so more movies could be made.”

Responding to the O’Leary quote, cited in Variety, Liu told his 1 million followers, “Sure, blame the extras making 15-22 dollars an hour struggling to make a living and not above-the-line people making multiple millions… tech breakthroughs overwhelmingly benefit the hyper-wealthy and leave ordinary people in the dust. Nobody needs AI extras.

Deeper Context: The 36-year-old Liu, who was born in China and raised in Canada since the age of five, has had some martial arts training, but generally downplays this, saying, “If we’re honest, I think I was more of a dancer than I ever was a martial artist.”

Liu’s Marvel film grossed over $432 million at the box office, helping Disney gradually emerge from the pandemic during lockdowns and the rise of streaming. He most recently starred in Peacock’s 2025 spy thriller The Copenhagen Test and has wrapped filming for his role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday
