Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event kicked off on Friday, but the studio waited until early Saturday morning to begin unleashing a few treats, the first of which is the trailer for Marvel’s new VisionQuest series. Paul Bettany returns to the role of Vision he owned in the Avengers movies. The series shows the sentient AI housed in a superpowered body attempting to live a normal life as events unfold related to his past with Wanda.
And when Vision isn’t in the real world, he appears to have internal interactions within a virtual world housed in his artificial mind. One of the inhabitants of this virtual world is none other than Ultron, from 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. But like Bettany, who gets to play a decent portion of his character in human form, Ultron also gets a temporary human body, fittingly played by James Spader (Boston Legal, The Blacklist). For those unfamiliar with MCU lore, this isn’t stunt casting, Spader was the voice of Ultron in the Avengers: Age of Ultron film, so this is familiar territory for the actor.
The showrunner is Terry Matalas, whose most recent excursion into TV was the award-winning Star Trek: Picard series, which ran for three seasons. VisionQuest is being framed as the third in a trilogy, following the previous Disney Plus series WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
You can check out the trailer above. VisionQuest begins streaming on Disney Plus on Oct. 14.
