Tom Green Video Podcast Lands Broadcast TV Deal

tomgreen1.jpgA lot of attention has been paid to former Rocketboom host (and now former ABC online host) Amanda Congdon as the person that might take video podcasting mainstream. But as Congdon attempts to figure out life after ABC online, former MTV comedian Tom Green is making the dreams of hundreds of video podcasters come true by landing a major broadcast television deal for his Web-hosted show. Tom Green’s live, one-hour call-in show, which airs daily at 8 PM PST, 11 PM EST, secured the deal with television syndicator Debmar-Mercury (”Farscape,” “South Park,” “The Surreal Life,” and “The Man Show”) with the help of the William Morris Agency. Debuting on television in January 2008, Green will continue to do the show from his home in Hollywood Hills, California and offer the program for free on his website. According numbers crunched on Compete, Green’s site is neck-and-neck with Leo Laporte’s TWiT podcast network, but dwarfed by the traffic on video podcast network Revision3. Although Green was already a well-known figure on television, he worked hard to get his numbers where they are. Conclusion: If Green’s site traffic and C-Level celebrity can land him a TV deal, other video podcasters like Ask A Ninja and the two afore-mentioned networks should probably light fires under their agents arses—the time for video podcasters to strike is now.
